“Ang Payong na Takot sa Ulan” emerged as the grand prize winner in the recently concluded 8th Lampara Books Children’s Story Writing Contest sponsored by Lampara Publishing House, Inc. (LPHI).

Written by Rommel Pamaos from Las Pinas, the winning piece tells the story of an umbrella who develops fear towards rain that results to its owner getting wet and having a fever.

A graduate of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines—Taguig, Pamaos won a cash prize of Php 30,000.00 plus a scroll of merit. The winning story will be illustrated by the winner in the soon-to-be launched 8th Lampara Books Illustrator’s Prize, also sponsored by LPHI, and will be published by the company through its banner book imprint, Lampara Books. This will be Pamaos’ first children’s story to be published.

An honorable mention award was also given by the judges for the story “Ang Ruler na Mahilig Manukat” which was also written by Pamaos.

The board of jury was composed of Ms. Becky Bravo, award-winning children’s story writer and currently an editor-translator-writer at LPHI; Mr. Eugene Y. Evasco, Palanca Awards hall of famer, UP professor and award-winning author of children’s stories; and Mr. Segundo D.
