THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO

Fate seems to be in favor of the young and handsome Edmond Dantes. He is appointed the new captain of the ship Pharaonand engaged to a beautiful woman, Mercedes. However, his almost perfect life arouses jealousy among three men. These men conspire and draft a letter accusing Dantes of treason. On the day of his wedding, Dantes is arrested. He is thrown into prison by the deputy prosecutor-even with the knowledge that Dantes is innocent. He spends long, insufferable years in a dungeon, the place reserved for prisoners who have gone mad.
In prison, Dantes meets Abbe Faria, a brilliant and resourceful priest, who provides Dantes with education, shares his new plan to escape, and tells him of the hidden treasure buried on the small island of Monte Cristo. But Faria dies even before they could escape.
Dantes manages to escape by replacing Faria's body with his in a body bag. He successfully finds the treasure chest inside a cave in Monte Cristo.
Dantes, in return, introduces himself as the Court of Monte Cristo. He uses the immense treasure in plotting out the downfall of the four men who threw his life away...
